| Though the
Piedmont Triad
airport (just west of Greensboro) has become the primary airport for this
area (called the Triad), Winston Salem does have its own airport, the
Smith-Reynolds Airport on US-52 just 3 miles northeast of the city
center. While this was a busy commercial airport back in the Eastern
Airlines days, today it serves general aviation (almost two-dozen
business jets are based here) and air taxi services. Commercial
passenger service is through the
Piedmont Triad
airport just west of Greensboro.
