Famous for its indoor swimming pools (one replicating a Roman bath) and exquisite marble work, the Hearst Castle, as it is popularly known, is a must see for visitors to California. It is about 31 miles north of San Luis Obispo on CA state highway 1. Several modes of transportation are available but most visitors use automobile.
  The Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument is now part of the California State Parks System. Tours are offered daily. For information and reservations phone (toll-free) 1-800-444-4445.

  Several excellent accommodations are in San Simeon including the Best Western Cavalier Oceanfront Resort (San Simeon's only oceanfront accommodation).
