About the
Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway (OR)
|
|
Roseburg, Medford
and the Crater Lake area are served by Medford's Rogue Valley
International Airport. We recommend that you drive north on I-5 to
Roseburg and exit 124. Head east on OR-138, crossing the river where
138 joins OR-99. Continue north about 300 yards to where 138 breaks
off to the right (east).
OR-138, officially designated as the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Highway,
now continues, past Glide, Steamboat and Diamond Lake, to Crater
Lake National Park.
You will be entering the North Entrance to Crater Lake National
Park. After you have finished your visit, we recommend you exit via
the South Entrance (Crater Lake Highway). This becomes OR-62 and
takes you back to Medford. About 35 miles from the South Entrance is
Prospect,
site of Barr Creek and Mill Creek Falls. They are well worth the
stop. For

OR-138, which follows the beautiful North Umpqua River, has been officially designated as the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway. It is also a favored route to Crater Lake National Park. There are several spectacular waterfalls which are easily viewable along this route. True, you usually have to get out of your car, but the stroll to good viewing points is never challenging.
Hotel and Motel accommodations, usually at a discount, are available in Medford (I-5 exits 30, 32 & 35), Grants Pass (exits 55 thru 61), Canyonville (exits 99 & 101) and Roseburg (exits 119 & 125). |
